Education and Career Goals

Educational Goals:

Currently I am working toward my bachelor's degree in industrial computer technology at East Carolina. I am in my first semester there (Fall 2007) and I have many more to go. After I get my bachelors degree from ECU, I am considering joining with the Air Force if I have trouble finding a job that appeals to my interests. I believe the Air Force would give me the chance to use all of my skills toward most of my interests at some point. Their benefits are also excellent! I also hear a lot of NASA astronauts were pilots or had some experience in the Air Force. Whether I join with the Air Force or not, I hope to pursue another degree in astronomy as I have always loved space other than computers and networking.

I'm not that big of a fan of coding/programming (though I haven't really got into it at the university level, so I'm still uncertain of this). But I realize knowing a programming language fluently would really help me to stay on the computer and scientific side. However, I believe the degree in astronomy will allow me to still work with most aspects of my interests, which is my ultimate goal. Eventually, I wouldn't mind having a master's degree in computers or astronomy.

Career Goals:

I wish I could say that I currently have a career in my industry. Unfortunately I don't yet. However, I would envision my future career being bright, allowing me to do what I enjoy most and get compensated for it. To start off, I hope to begin my career as a network/server/workstation technician or administrator. Eventually I hope to work my way up to working with computer systems and networks that support important research such as for astronomy, science, or health. Once again, I think the Air Force could really help out with this.

I would love working for a company that is focused on its technology and/or puts focus on its scientific research. Google and NASA are two examples of companies I would love to work for. But basically any company that deals with science or research and needs computers to do the research.
