Personal, Education, and Career Goals

Personal Goals:

For years I have enjoyed collecting and working with computers and networking them together. I have continually sought out ways to use my spare computer equipment. In 2005, I discovered the BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing) platform. The BOINC platform allows you to utilize spare CPU cycles when your computer is idle. I've also recently learned how to setup Linux clustering using the OSCAR platform.

I have created a website called "greenpowerdatacenter.org" dedicated to my thoughts and ideas on this subject. But I need your help to make it happen! Please check it out!

Educational Goals:

Currently I am working toward my bachelor's degree in industrial computer technology at East Carolina. I also plan to pursue another degree in astronomy as I have always loved space other than computers and networking.

I'm not that big of a fan of coding/programming (though I haven't really got into it at the university level, so I'm still uncertain of this). But I realize knowing a programming language fluently would really help me to stay on the computer and scientific side. However, I believe the degree in astronomy will allow me to still work with most aspects of my interests, which is my ultimate goal. Eventually, I wouldn't mind having a master's degree in computers or astronomy.

Career Goals:

Currently, I am a datacenter technician for a large, internationally recognized search engine. I love my current job! Aside from this, I have always envisioned working with computer systems and networks that support important research such as for astronomy, science, or health. I have always thought highly of the NAVY, Air Force, and NASA for their research in some of those areas.
